Horizontal Drilling Crew Supervisor

We have a vacancy for a Horizontal Directional Drilling Foreman to join our team in Melbourne, Australia. As a field crew leader, you must have a comprehensive knowledge of HDD techniques, equipment and safety protocols. You will need to be able to read and interpret plans, maps and drawings, as well as have the ability to communicate with clients and other stakeholders effectively. 

​

You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the crew, including scheduling jobs, monitoring progress on each job site, ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times, providing technical support when needed, troubleshooting any issues that arise during drilling operations, preparing reports for management review, maintaining accurate records of all activities and ensuring that all projects are completed on time and within budget.

​

You will also be responsible for training new crew members, providing feedback to the team and ensuring that all equipment is properly maintained and in good working order. 

​

Ideally, you will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in horizontal directional drilling as well as a strong understanding of civil engineering principles and practices. You will be a problem solver and able to make decisions quickly under pressure.

Responsibilities:

​

  • Supervise all civil directional drilling operations, including developing, planning and executing drilling programs.

  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including the use of personal protective equipment.

  • Monitor and manage drilling progress and ensure compliance with project specifications.

  • Maintain accurate drilling records and reports.

  • Monitor and report on drill crew performance and ensure that performance expectations are met.

  • Provide guidance and direction to the drill crew.

  • Monitor and manage drilling quality.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve any drilling issues.

  • Manage and maintain all drilling equipment.

  • Liaise with clients, stakeholders and other professionals as needed.

  • Ensure the efficient and safe use of the drill rig and associated equipment.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in civil directional drilling or relevant work

  • RIINHB323D - Conduct horizontal directional drilling cert or equiv.

  •  Knowledge of relevant safety protocols and regulations.

  • Better than average communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.

  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and with the Administration support team.

Q: What will be my job responsibilities as a Directional Drilling Operator in Australia?

A: You will be responsible for operating and maintaining the rigs and associated equipment, performing drilling operations, and installing and replacing underground utilities. You will also be required to monitor, adjust and repair equipment, and ensure safety and efficiency standards are met.

 

Q: What qualifications do I need?

A: You will need to have a valid driver's license, and experience in the operation of HDD rigs.

  • Experience operating Horizontal Directional Drill or Tracking Drill Head

  • Current HR Truck License (preferred for role)

  • Experience or VOC in relation to Operating Vac Truck and Locating underground existing services

  • Confidence and experience locating and identifying existing services according to DBYD

  • White Card

  • Physically fit and capable of manual tasks

  • Ability to read and follow design plans

  • Understanding of onsite documentation requirements - JSEA, Bore Logs, SWMS

Reinstatement Crew

We are looking for experienced, hard-working and reliable lateral directional drilling reinstatement crew to join our civil construction teams. The ideal candidates must have a keen eye for detail and the ability to complete complex tasks from start to finish.

​

We undertake full reinstatement including asphalt, concreting and tiling including bluestone pavers and have a reputation with our customers for the quality of our work. We also do duct access and have Telstra accreditations for all aspects of network and DCAF completion requirements.

 

You must have:

 

  • Relevant experience carrying out line replacement works, reinstatement works for lateral directional drilling

  • Ability to read and interpret plans and accurately complete associated reinstatement work

  • Knowledge of the latest industry safety standards and regulations

  • Excellent communication skills for effective team collaboration 

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Physically fit as some heavy lifting is required

Traffic Controller Multiple Positions Vacant

As a result of significant growth, we are looking for qualified and experienced Traffic Controllers for immediate start around Melbourne on a full-time basis. Our workshop and yards are in Carrum Downs.

 

As a Traffic Controller, you will be responsible for the safe and effective traffic management of road projects and will be required to direct traffic, monitor traffic and enforce road safety laws.

 

About the role

 

We are looking for team members who are strongly committed to ensuring the safety of staff, road users and other contractors on our civil construction projects.

 

To be successful in your application you must at least have Certificate IV in Traffic Control (and/or RIIWHS302D and R11WHS205D), as well as Construction Induction (White Card) and a current First Aid Certificate.

 

You should have experience in interpreting traffic management plans, as well as the installation and removal of traffic management fixtures, and a sound understanding of the relevant legislation and regulations to be able to communicate confidently with traffic and pedestrians.

What is Certificate IV in Traffic Management and Control and how does it differ from Traffic Management Certificates RIIWHS302D and R11WHS205D?

Certificate IV in Traffic Control is a nationally accredited qualification that provides you with the skills and knowledge required to become a qualified Traffic Controller. It covers topics such as traffic control plans, safety principles, traffic signals and devices, and the ability to direct traffic safely.

 

RIIWHS302D and R11WHS205D are short courses that also provide you with skills and knowledge to assist you in traffic management and control. These courses are not nationally accredited, however, they provide a thorough understanding of traffic control principles, workplace safety and how to safely direct traffic. They are a great option for those looking to gain an understanding of traffic control without committing to the full Certificate IV.

 

How long does it take to qualify for Vicroads Traffic Management and Control tickets RIIWHS302D and R11WHS205D?

It usually takes around 8-10 days to complete the two tickets RIIWHS302D Implement Traffic Management Plan, and R11WHS205D Control Traffic with Stop-Go Bat. However, the time frame may vary depending on the individual and the training provider. It is also important to note that the tickets are valid for 5 years and must be renewed after the expiry date.

How good does my English need to be for me to get a job as a Traffic Controller?

Traffic Controllers are required by law to have adequate English language comprehension skills which allow you to safely complete tasks relating to controlling traffic, such as being able to: Understand Safe Work Method Statements, Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes. You must also be able to speak English clearly enough to be able to communicate easily with other members of your traffic control team and to communicate instructions to drivers and pedestrians.
